Directions for reaching “Awelon” in Rhiw, Gwynedd LL53 8AF
Follow M 56 along the signed “North Wales A5117/ A55” Queensferry
Follow the North Wales coast road (A55) right along the coast road and through
the three tunnels.
Keep going until you PASS the A5 turnoff to Betws-y-Coed and take the next exit
to the A487 to Caernarfon.
Follow this road going through Caernarfon taking the Porthmadoc and then
Pwllheli signs and continue to follow Pwllheli as the road turns into the
A499.(i.e. Do NOT following Porthmadog signs)
Watch as you go through the villages as the police hide in the bus stops to
ensure speed limits are observed!!!!
Carry on until you get to Pwllheli and follow the flow of the road (straight
over a mini roundabout, bear right and then very sharp left turn) and take the
signs to Abersoch.
At the railway station (behind the Co-op) re-set you mileage as the figures
following start here!
Straight over the next TWO mini roundabouts after the station, then just follow
the road.
{0.8 miles} Next roundabout take first exit (i.e. bear left) to Abersoch
{3.9 miles} At the double bend in Llanbedrog (by the pub and Londis shop) TURN
RIGHT up to Mynytho up the steep hill – signposted Aberdaron.
If you go past an Indian Restaurant on your left, turn round!
Follow the B4413 through Mynytho {5.4 miles} and keep going 'til you pass the
sign on the left to Llangian and Abersoch {6.2 miles}– just 0.1 mile after there
is another left turn signed RHIW {6.3 miles}
Follow this road until the village. On the way there is a split by the post box
{8.1miles} - you want the left bend across the bridge – after that it is
straightforward! Come past Plas Yn Rhiw (National trust) {10.7 miles} and up the
(steep) hill. When you are nearly at the top there is a house on the left (Pen Y
Boncyn) and next door there is a white gabled house directly onto the road, with
a track between the two houses. Turn in here {11.2 miles} and park in the grassy
car park – Awelon cottage is 25 metres further on on the right.
If you pass the chapel and start to go down hill, you have gone too far. Enjoy!
